Endodontics

Endodontic treatment is a field of dentistry that focuses on the internal soft tissue of a tooth. It is a highly specialised type of dentistry and at The Walden Dental Clinic we have extensive experience providing such therapies.

The soft tissue of the tooth is known as the dental nerve or pulp. This delicate area can become infected or suffer trauma that, if left untreated, can result in the loss of a tooth, heightened sensitivity and discolouration.

The most common form of endodontic treatment is known as root canal therapy and is where the inside of a tooth requires cleaning and/or removal of infection.

The dental pulp can become infected or suffer injury for various reasons such as when a tooth has cracked or breaks, when crowns, bridges or veneers become dislodged or damaged or when decay has affected a tooth externally and internally.

Symptoms of dental nerve infection include swelling, pain, nerve damage and the development of an abscess.

Endodontist

An endodontist specialises in advanced treatments required to treat the soft tissue within the teeth. While a general dentist can carry out root canal therapy, in more advanced cases you may require specialist attention.

At The Walden Dental Clinic we can refer you to an experienced and expert endodontist to ensure you receive the precise treatment that you need.
Referral is needed when a root canal condition is severe or there are problems accessing the tooth’s root. An Endodontist has specialist training and advanced qualifications to treat such problems.

If you have had root canal therapy to treat an internal soft tissue infection, there is a chance that it could reoccur. If this happens a number of times you may require a surgical procedure or it may be advisable to have the affected tooth extracted and replaced with a dental implant.

At The Walden Dental Clinic we can advise and treat a variety of endodontic problems. Please click here or call 01799 523194 to contact us and arrange your appointment.
