A dental crown helps to protect and strengthen a damaged tooth and is also used to correct a number of other dental issues.
At The Walden Dental Clinic we are experienced in fitting dental crowns in Saffron Walden and do so with skill and precision to ensure your teeth look and feel natural after any restorative work.
Known as a ‘cap’, a crown is fitted on top of the affected tooth and is colour-matched to your natural teeth so that it blends in to your mouth.
Crowns are used for a number of reasons, such as:
- Strengthening or protecting broken or damaged teeth
- Helping to prevent further damage to a decayed tooth
- Anchoring a bridge into place
- Used to replace misshapen or discoloured teeth
- Where a tooth requires a larger than usual filling, a crown may be used as an alternative
Crowns can be made from a variety of materials, depending on price, location in the mouth and the patient’s preference. Metal crowns are used at the back of the mouth and are extremely hard wearing, however these are less popular as they can be spotted within the mouth.
Porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns look and feel natural, as do crowns made from resin, ceramic or porcelain alone. The latter two options are used on the front teeth to achieve a completely natural and subtle result.
If you require a crown, we will have one made specifically for you in our laboratory so that it looks as natural as possible. You may be fitted with a temporary crown while we create your permanent one.
